John Carter: World of Mars issue 2 – Two stars out of Five

Well I’ve read issue 2 of Marvel’s John Carter: World of Mars comic. And I have to say I gave it a 2 out of 5. Tars Tarkas snaps the neck of a white ape ? And he leaps like John Carter up into the air ? The text says he uses a half-nelson, but not the illustration. Elsewhere Dejah Thoris holds her head upright while being carried unconscious for pages. While the penciller, Luke Ross looked promising in the first issue. I’m suspecting if he doesn’t have photo in front of him he’s not so good. His action his wooden and his figures are stiff. Is Dejah a Barsoomian or a Navi ? She has the longest torso ever. The colouring is okay sometimes, but we know from the trailer that a sandstorm on Barsoom is very red. Everything is cool coloured in this book. I didn’t talk about the story because there really isn’t one. So, not my fave to say the least.

  1. I don’t like how they call him Tarkas. His name is Tars Tarkas not “Tars” as his first name and “Tarkas” is his last. That is the reason why they always called him “John Carter” and not “John” or “Carter”. Barsoomians don’t have the concept of first and last names.
